I am truly obsessed with Ali Wong. She is literally the definition
of a badass working mom who has no filter and someone that I always see pregnant
(seriously, every time I see her, she’s always pregnant). What made me have so
much love and respect for her was not just her stand-ups, but mostly her
readings. Last night, I was having a late-night reading with the ones that were
for discussion today and this is by-far my favorite chapter, hell favorite book
and I don’t read books (I’m a movie person because of the visuals sorry). In this
post for this week, I want to share with you all my favorite points in this
chapter and maybe you guys might have the same one with a similar thought, who
knows.
I love how she starts
off about being man-handled by Idris Elba (he is fine fine) and fantasized how
it would be if she would’ve married Idris. Even though she talks about that,
she moves on to her talking about how supportive, charismatic, and just a great
husband and father to their kids overall. I just love their relationship
because the stuff that they do now I would for sure do with my husband. I want
to say sorry for skipping all the way to the end, but this needs to be discussed
because this was hilarious. So, when Ali talked about when she was little, she
used to pee her pants from laughing like any other kid. She then goes on and talked
about the time when her and her husband was just chilling basically and slashing
her pubic hair for her (the best husband award goes to him for that). In the
timing of that, he must have said a funny ass joke for her to pee and no not
just pee her pants… on her husband’s hands. First and foremost, if I was to do
such thing, I know my husband (in the future, I am too young for that right now
haha) or boyfriend would’ve broken up/divorced me right then and there and take
me to court for attempted murder. I swear to you I would’ve had a grand jury, a
whole trial that would’ve been televised, like good golly I’m not Ted Bundy I just
pissed myself babe I’m sorry! Mr. Wong didn’t do that though and that is what I
call some true, tough, “only we understand” type of love.
Really quick even though that was my favorite part and all, I
can tell you that the part that got me furious out of my mind was when Ali and
Mari were in first class. Let me just say Moana’s soundtrack is the shit! Sorry
for my language, but it is so true and the fact that the hating old wrinkly granny was being so mean to Mari had me go off. The funny part is when I read what happened,
I gasped and then called her a “hating a** b**** that needs to be checked! YOU
f****** C word…” I know that’s terrible to call someone but oh my goodness it’s
a child (not even ours!) and then after a while, I didn’t feel bad because she
said it to, but in her head because of Mari.
The line "seriously, every time I see her she's always pregnant" had me laughing so hard haha. I agree so much with this post. I really love the energy and authenticity that comes through in her work.
ReplyDeleteAli Wong has also been my favorite so far. She just does things and doesn't seem to think about the consequences because she doesn't care. Her book is so genuine, sweet, abrasive, and hilarious all at the same time. And the chapter with her husband gives me hope that one day marriage roles will be redefined. There will always be a give-and-take, but maybe it won't be unheard of when the parents switch off on standardized gender roles.
